The Bleach Anime series is based on the long running Manga of the same name. Written by Tite Kubo, Bleach first aired in Japan in October 2004 and has since risen in prominence across the globe, with a number of animated feature films, video games and associated Bleach anime merchandise. The series currently at 200+ episodes, combines action, comedy, romance and supernatural elements to create a very well balanced and widely appealing Anime.
Bleach follows Ichigo Kurosaki the main protagonist of the series, a 15 year old high school student who has the ability to see spirits. Ichigo crosses paths with a female shinigami (death god), Rukia Kuchiki, as she battles an evil spirit (also known as a Hollow), badly wounded in the confrontation Rukia transfers her Shinigami powers to Ichigo, transforming him into a substitute death god of surprising power, enabling him to dispatch the evil Hollow with ease. Almost powerless Rukia is left stranded in the human world, with Ichigo performing her Shinigami duties, destroying hollows and sending stranded ghosts to Soul Society. Due to the transferring of Death god powers being highly illegal Rukia’s superiors in Soul Society are dispatched to bring them to justice and execution.
This initial Bleach Anime story builds into a powerful narrative of intertwining plotlines and a vast universe of characters as Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends travel to Soul Society and far beyond to battle immensely powerful enemies. The journey is a rollercoaster of action, emotion and excitement as we watch Ichigo’s personality develop and his powers grow. It is rare to find such in-depth character development for such a wide range of characters, each with their own unique, gripping back stories and plotlines that intertwine smoothly with the ongoing narrative.
