Afro samurai is a 5-part anime directed by Fuminori Kizaki And originally brought to life in the manga by Takashi Okazaki.
Afro Samurai is set in a dark mix of the past, present and future, combining today’s technology with the history of Feudal Japan. In a time where the sensibilities and the way of life of old Japan meet the styles and cultures of today’s black America. Afro Samurai features the voices of top Hollywood stars, Samuel Jackson and Ron Perlman with music from RZA of The Wutang clan.
In this dark world only one thing matters to the lone swordsmen and warriors that wonder its earth, the number 1 fighters headband, that is said to grant the wearer the power to “rule the world”, but there is just one catch, the only person that can challenge the current n.o.1 is the wearer of the number2 headband and unfortunately for him, he’s anyone’s game.
Justice the current number1 took the headband by defeating Rokutaro, slicing off his head in front of his young son. Years later Rokutaro’s son, our hero and current owner of the number two headband, Afro, walks the dark path of revenge, to avenge his father’s slaying and kill Justice. As owner of headband2, Afro wonders a deadly path with death around every corner. With all forms of warrior in pursuit of the god like power that comes with defeating number 1, Afro is constantly challenged for his position as next in line to take on the world’s best swordsman, Justice.
With action packed fight scenes, cool animation and dark historical backdrops, topped off with the Hip-hop beats of Wutang’s RZA, Afro Samurai is an interesting and exciting fusion of cultures, east meets west, ancient Japan meets Hip Hop America.
